Replacing the Rear Axles on my Mercedes R107 450sl

I hooked up the MS to my computer and started easytherm to set the inputs for the original sensors so the megatune had all of the right temperatures they are as follows:

Once you have typed these into easytherm (they are in Celsius so choose the Celsius setting) then you burn them to the MS and easytherm is great in that it walks you through the steps as you push the buttons (even I couldn't screw it up)

once you are done you copy the files you saved in easytherm into megatune and when you open megatune then all your gauges read right other than the TPS. to set the TPS just use the tools settings and punch in the closed position then hold the throttle all of the way open and hit the button again and the TPS is set. mine didn't work first time and I had to open and close megatune to get it to show up.

After that I set all of the constants just as described in the tuning section of megatune. got really confused as when you hit burn to ec nothing seems to happen but after panicking and leaving tons of questions on the MS forums Philip Lochnar told me its just a soft storage and its is saved don't panic. car started first time!

I am full of bullshit!!! first time I had absolutely no revs showing on cranking, had a minor hissy fit and ran around like a headless chicken till I discovered that even after reading the manual 1000 times I had hooked the tach signal to the positive pole of the coil not the negative coil. switched it over and it started first time. ran it around the block and parked it till I can do the CIS 450sl and then I will tune them together.

Megatune with the ignition off                                                           Just started and enrichment is on engine idling approx 1200 rpm

engine idling at approx 1200 rpm coolant at 130                               Coolant at approx 185, no enrichment idling 700 rpm

It was quite amazing as I had been having a problem with idling surges and the car when started would surge between 600 rpm and 1800rpm. I was expecting to still have to sort out the problem but the megasquirt did it for me. an unexpected bonus!

I know its not perfect as I haven't tuned it at all. I also know the injector pulse is too short and it is recommended to get it up to between 8ms and 13ms. I will get to it I just wanted to share how to do it. next will be the tuning it!

update Nov 9th 2008

I have a very good tune running now and am getting about 17.5mpg (US gallon so around 20mpg Imperial gallon) with great performance. She starts first time every time and has tons of power. I have tried to post my msq file to the site but it goes wrong all of the time so if you want a copy please email me at locost7 at msn dot com you can put all of the bits in the right place to get the email to work but I don't want a trawler bot to pull my email off the web page and start sending me tons of crud.

good luck to everyone who gives it a try I am going to start on my edis next
